Craig Moody has been the golf superintendent at Osprey Links Golf Course for 15 years.

During that time, he had never experienced what he smelled and what he saw last Wednesday.

Moody smelt an awful stench on the North end of the golf course on Cranberry road, only to discover plastic bags full of the decomposing bodies of at least 10 dead geese.

“Some hunter(s) killed them and decided to just dump them on side of the road,” said Moody.

“If you aren't going to eat them, them don't hunt them, or at least dispose of them elsewhere. The smell was nauseating as the stench drifted over the golf course near the second hole.  Golfers could have smelled the stench and been grossed out, that’s how I found it.”

Moody says he reported the grisly discovery to both the City Police and the Ministry of Natural Resources and they just suggested he bury the bodies.

“Legally there’s no way to track the culprits but my concern would be if someone thought we were poisoning them on the golf course which we did not do.”

The carcasses and the smell have dissipated as Moody believes bears and coyotes pulled the bodies into the bush where the bones have been picked clean.

Moody wishes those responsible would think again about disposing geese carcasses in that manner.

“I would say show a little more respect and dispose them where someone isn’t going to see or smell them,” Moody said.
