Criminal negligence causing death charge laid in pedestrian accident

On the evening of July 15, Almaguin Highlands OPP were called to Perry Township, just south of Burk's Falls, regarding a woman that had been fatally struck by a motor vehicle.

On the evening of July 15, Almaguin Highlands OPP were called to Perry Township, just south of Burk's Falls, regarding a woman that had been fatally struck by a motor vehicle.

In addition to the original charges, Thomas Stevens, 26, of Perry Township is now facing an additional charge of Criminal Negligence causing death.

Stevens was originally charged with:

  • Operation causing death, 
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand - death.

Heidi Lynn Slessor, a 34-year-old female, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Stevens is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge tomorrow, October 10.

Investigation is continuing under the direction of Detective Inspector Laura Houliston of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of the North East Region OPP Crime Unit, Regional Support Team, and Forensic Identification Services.

Parry Sound District Emergency Medical Services and the Burk's Falls and District Fire Department were also called to the scene.
