Crime Unit seizes $30,000 in drugs

The North Bay Police Street Crime Unit made a traffic stop that led to the seizure of about $30,000 worth of drugs.  

On June 10, as part of an ongoing investigation, stopped a pick-up in North Bay that was driven by 39-year-old Brendan Garnier of nearby Eldee.  

Police say a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 356, 80 mg oxycodone pills and another 70, 5 mg percocet pills with a street value of $30,000.

The truck was also seized by police.

North Bay Police Service, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant on Garnier’s residence in Eldee on June 10.

The search of the residence revealed a quantity of controlled drugs and the seizure of two non-restricted firearms with ammunition.

Through the investigation Garnier and a woman from Eldee have been charged.  

Brendan Garnier of Eldee, age 39, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking;
  • One count of Possession of a Controlled Substance;
  • Two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm;
  • Two counts of Careless Storage of Firearm;
  • Four counts of Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited; and
  • Six counts of Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order.

Shelley Commanda of Eldee, age 36, has been arrested and charged with:

  • One count of Possession of a Controlled Substance;
  • Two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; and
  • Two counts of Careless Storage of Firearm 

Both accused have been released from custody and will appear in the North Bay Courthouse on July 9th, 2019 to answer to the charges.
