Crime Stoppers and North Bay Hydro Announce Partnership

At a press conference held this morning Near North Crime Stoppers and North Bay Hydro announced that they are combining efforts to stop Marijuana grow operations.

A brochure has been developed and is being distributed to all North Bay Hydro customers over the next several months. The brochure contains valuable information on Marijuana grow operations and how they can pose a threat to everyone. Although currently not a major problem in the Near North Area Crime Stoppers hopes to educate people on how to recognize a grow operation and how they can report their suspicions to police in an attempt to stop the problem before it starts.

Crime Stoppers is a board made up of civilians and supported by police and media associations across the area. Crime Stoppers encourages anyone with information on a possible grow operation to contact them at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). All calls remain anonymous, there is no caller id and the call is never traced or taped. Callers are eligible to earn a cash reward should the information provided lead to an arrest and conviction.

Hydro to reimburse any reward payouts

All Crime Stoppers reward money comes from fundraising efforts throughout the year.
Under the new partnership with North Bay Hydro, Hydro will reimburse Crime Stoppers for any rewards paid. In 2003 alone Crime Stoppers paid out over $12,000 in rewards a result of 556 tips in which police seized $11.1 million worth of drugs.
