Crime of the week: Illegal fishing

Conservation Officers determined that the lines had possibly been set the previous day and left to catch fish overnight

On January 25, Conservation Officers discovered nine unattended ice fishing lines near the island on Pine Lake, north of Loring.

The location is remote and is only accessible by snowmobile.

Conservation Officers determined that the lines had possibly been set the previous day and left to catch fish overnight. Seven tip-ups and two braided lines attached to blue styrofoam were seized. Numerous fish had been caught and left on the lines.

Near North Crime Stoppers and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Conservation Officers are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the people responsible.
