A respiratory outbreak at  240-bed Cassellholme has been upgraded to a COVID-19 outbreak.

A news release says routine screening and tests revealed the presence of the virus in two residents and two staff members.

These residents have been moved to Cassellholme’s Isolation Unit and the staff members are isolating in their homes.

“It's been through the tremendous efforts of our staff, families and the community that we have been saved from this type of outbreak to date," Angie Punnett, an associate administrator, says.

"Now, more than ever, we will need the help of our essential caregivers. They've been trained to handle this kind of situation and their support is tremendous”.

Most, if not all, residents have received their third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, notes the release.

"We are scheduled to administer a fourth dose to residents next week. Every precaution continues to be in place," adds Punnett.

All at-risk residents are being isolated as a precaution and additional staff is being deployed to provide support to residents and staff.

New admissions to Cassellholme have been suspended and all residents are assessed daily for COVID symptoms.

Visitor restrictions are in effect, with additional safety protocols in place.

"We will continue to update our website as the situation changes, or we receive further directives from Public Health," explains Punnett.
