The COVID-19 outbreak at a Matachewan-area mine has been declared over.

The outbreak at Alamos Gold's Young-Davidson mine was declared Nov. 4. Timiskaming Health Unit acting medical officer of health Dr. Glenn Corneil announced it has ended today.

According to the health unit, the outbreak included six cases, all of which are resolved. Five of the cases were reported under other health units as the people live outside the area, and one was part of the Timiskaming numbers.

"The situation could have been much worse, and is why we all need to continue practicing public health measures," said Corneil in the news release. "Following public health direction in regards to self-isolating needs to be emphasized. If you are instructed to self-isolate, you must do so."

Under the new provincial framework, the Timiskaming Health Unit region is classified as green, which allows for the broadest allowance of Stage 3 activities.

To date, there have been 18 confirmed cases in the region. All are resolved.
