Landlords in the city have recently been vocal about how they are left vulnerable to tenants who steal items and damage property, sometimes leaving mountains of garbage behind as they skip out on rent.

Council will discuss a motion put forward by Councillor Mike Anthony tonight that will ask the Province to help protect landlords while respecting tenant rights.

"Whereas there are growing concerns around rental units in the City being left in a costly and damaged state; and whereas local owners report that these incidents are increasing in frequency and severity. therefore be it resolved that the City of North Bay request that the Province explore ways to protect basic important tenant rights while investigating policies and regulations that could help to protect property, and penalize those who cause damage to property, and help recoup costs for those damages," says Anthony's motion.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
