Proof that giving a false name to the cops when stopped can lead to bigger things yesterday.
Police pulled a car over Sunday morning at Ferguson and McIntyre Streets.
The male driver was unable to provide a driver’s licence and falsely identified himself when asked.
A short time later woman arrived at the scene and confirmed to police that the man was who he said he was.
But following an investigation, police discovered that the name given was indeed not his.
When police tried to arrest the driver, he fled the vehicle and immediately tried to escape the scene on foot.
Following a short foot chase, police arrested him on McIntyre Street and took him to police headquarters where he was tested by a qualified North Bay Police Service drug recognition officer.
Results of the test indicate that the man was impaired by drugs.
Police searched the woman following her arrest and seized a number of suspected morphine pills.
