Copper wire theft leaves public at risk

Recent thefts of copper wire at hydro substations have been not only been dangerous to the thieves, they have also left the public at risk.

On one occasion the perimeter fence was cut and the manner in which the wire was removed, put the thieves at risk and the substation was left insecure for 5 days.

In a second incident at another station, if the power had been turned on the thieves would have been killed.
