Copied currency floating around Mattawa and Bonfield

Businesses in Mattawa and Bonfield are being asked to contact the Ontario Provincial Police if they receive any currency that appears to be counterfeit.

Mattawa and North Bay OPP say phony ten and twenty-dollar bills have been passed out in the two towns over the last two weeks.

The Caisse Populaire in Mattawa and Bonfield, and other businesses in the area, have received tens and twenties in which the holographic image does not change colour and/or the fine lines in the portrait’s image is not visible.

Police are investigating and ask that businesses get as much information from the person who passed the counterfeit currency as possible, including a detailed description and information about their vehicle including licence, make and colour.
