Cop going on trial

A North Bay Police Service constable will be going on trial for charges dating back to 1999.
A North Bay Police Service constable will be going on trial for charges dating back to 1999.

Sean Burns, charged with criminal harassment, extortion, possession of a firearm at an unauthorized place and contravention of the Firearms Act, appeared at a preliminary hearing in North Bay Provincial Court Monday.

He was committed to stand trial on the charges on a date to be assigned by the court.

Details of the preliminary hearing cannot be published due to a court-ordered ban.

Burns, who had been suspended since his arrest Sept. 30, 2002, has been suspended indefinitely with pay by police chief George Berrigan, pursuant to the provisions of the Police Services Act.
