Controversial dog owner facing drug charges

A man at the centre of the "Downtown Doberman" controversy is now facing drug charges.

Rob Andrew Szalas was arrested yesterday.

Yesterday evening, during an ongoing drug investigation and the execution of a search warrant at a home and his business, The Leather Trend on Main Street East, officers with the North Bay Police Service’s Street Crime Unit arrested and charged Szalas, 50, with:

  • Three counts of trafficking;
  • One count of possession of Oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking;
  • One count of possession of marijuana;
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime; and
  • One count of breach of Officer in Charge undertaking

Police say from November 22nd to 24th, Szalas was trafficking Oxycodone pills from within his Main St.business.

As a result of the search of his residence, business and person, police seized:

  • approximately 25 grams of marijuana;
  • 14.5 80-mg Oxycodone pills (with a street value estimated at $1,450
  • Approximately $30,000 in Canadian currency (yet to be reconciled); and
  • A quantity of unknown pills.

Szalas was held in custody for a bail hearing.
