Construction to start soon on Home Depot, True North

Construction of the Home Depot and the new True North car dealership location is just “a couple of weeks” away, says North Bay Mayor Vic Fedeli.

Tenders for the Home Depot project were to be opened Tuesday, Fedeli said, and True North is only “days away” from beginning, “as soon as the frost is out of the ground,” Fedeli said.

“You’ll be seeing cranes up very shortly and the building permits for Home Depot have already been taken out,” Fedeli said.

City council did a little bit of housekeeping on the matter at a special meeting Monday night.

“The original deal was that True North would buy a large tract of land and lease a small tract with an option to purchase, but they decided at this point just to go ahead and purchase the small piece of property as well,” Fedeli said.

“And in order for them to do that we needed to indemnify them from the contaminants in the soil, since it was in our public works yard. So we know there was a small amount of clean-up, it’s within the budget, and we’ll just go ahead now and indemnify them and proceed with the clean-up. And that’s what happened at the special meeting.”

Home Depot and True North will be built on former city land at the end of Seymour Street, behind the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce.
