Conservation Authority hosting town hall meeting on Laurentian Escarpment

North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority has set Oct 17 for a town hall meeting to discuss mountain biking in the Laurentian Escarpment Conservation Area. The meeting is set for 7 pm at the NBMCA offices, 15 Janey Ave.

"We want to hear what all the trail users have to say about the escarpment trails and there's some information about management of these trails that we'd like to share. I'm optimistic we can find a common ground that respects the multi-use nature of these trails, " said NBMCA Chair Dave Mendicino.

The escarpment is a popular site for mountain biking. NBMCA has removed ramps, bridges and boardwalks over the last few years. Some members of the community have expressed concern about the need for and removal of some of these structures. It is hoped that a working group will be created to address these issues and look at how use of the trails can be addressed in the future.

NBMCA manages 16 Conservation areas and trails, including the trails at the Laurentian Escarpment.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) was founded in 1972 by the Province of Ontario and the NBMCA's 10 member municipalities. A non-profit organization, the NBMCA works closely with the public to balance human needs with the environmental needs of the region's watershed. The NBMCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities who are members of Conservation Ontario.
