Community Foundation hands out cash to 11 organizations

'As long as they are operating in North Bay and working to better our community we have an interest in supporting them'

Eleven local organizations will share $53,000 after an announcement by the North Bay and Area Community Foundation this morning.

The recipients include:

  • the Warriors of Hope, (new uniforms)
  • Special Olympics,
  • PADDLE, (expansion)
  • the Near North Palliative Care Network (adult save program)
  • YMCA (pre-teen Friday)
  • North Stars (ice time) and many more.

This is another record-breaking year for the Foundation, Kate Merritt-Dupelle, Executive Director told BayToday.

"We're really proud to be helping our community out and spread the wealth and build the entire community pie. The idea really is to create sustainable funding. So instead of spending all of our funding in one year, we spread it out year to year so we can ensure that the groups that are operating, and so vital to our community, are here for the years to come because we know how important they are."

This year's grants come from the organization's Smart and Caring Communities Fund, Jack Burrows Fund, and the Thomson Family Fund.

The Foundation accepts any application from a registered charity.

"As long as they are operating in North Bay and working to better our community we have an interest in supporting them."

It is the Foundation's goal to be a philanthropic leader, catalyst, and resource in enabling North Bay and Area to grow and flourish into a model community.

Building on the North Bay Area’s longstanding tradition of generosity, they aim to strengthen our community for the benefit of all its members and not just for now, but for future generations to come.

All of these grants will be distributed at the Foundation's Annual Dinner and Auction being held on Friday, May 4th at The Grande Event Centre. The evening will feature a five-course meal followed by an auction. Tickets are available at $100 per person including a charitable tax receipt for $50.
