Combined police effort leads to drug seizure

Members of the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) with the assistance of the North Bay Police Service (NBPS) conducted a drug investigation on Clarence Street in North Bay on July 21 at around 3 p.m. 

As a result of the investigation, police seized amounts of suspected crystal meth and cocaine with an estimated street value of $5,500. Also seized was over $7,000 in Canadian currency.

Layee Jabateh, 20 years of age, of North Bay and Mark Harrison, 35 years of age of Corbeil were arrested and charged with the following:

  • Trafficking in schedule I substance - Methamphetamines (crystal meth) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

Jonathon Allen, 37 years of age of North Bay was also arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA and,
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC

The accused were released on an Undertaking and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on August 31, 2021.
