Colts too much for Trojans in NOSSA snow bowl final (PHOTOS)

Colts rolled to a 41-0 win over the Trojans

The Korah Colts defended their NOSSA football title on the frozen tundra of Steve Omischl Sports Complex as they knocked off a young West Ferris Trojans squad 41-0 on a snowy and windy afternoon in North Bay.

The game was tight in the first quarter with only one score on a Tyler Brechin touchdown run.

After Noah Grasley ran in the first of two touchdowns on the afternoon late in the second quarter, the Colts went to the air late as Grasley hauled in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Robinson-Wright which gave them a comfortable 21-0 lead with only seven seconds left in the half.

Colts coach Tom Annett felt that late second-half score was key to their victory.

"I thought our offensive line played very well, we established a run game. They started to take some things away which opened some other things up  and I thought our players and coaches did a really good job of counter-punching and finding some other openings," said Annett

The Trojans could not get anything going offensively as they did not get a first down other than through penalties until the last play of the game. Despite the lopsided loss, Trojans head coach Mark Robertson is proud of what his young team accomplished this season.

"What a great experience for our grade 11 players and we are a really young team so I hope they take this experience as they witnessed what a well-coached football team does and how well they execute and that gives us something to work towards," said Robertson.

The Trojans offence took a hit in the first quarter when star receiver James Piper left the game with an ankle injury.

"We had another one of our starters AJ Williamson not able to play and when Piper went down that really hurts too but full credit to them," he said.

In the second half, the Colts added to the lead as running back Michael Nicoletta scored a long rushing touchdown midway through the third quarter and with the missed convert made it 27-0.

Nicoletta then added another major with 34 seconds left in the third quarter which made it 34-0.

In the fourth quarter, and the clock running the Colts added another rushing score by Gabe Martynuck.

The Colts will play in the Northern Bowl on November 28 against the Central Ontario winner.
