North Bay Street Crime Unit officers arrested and charged a Toronto man in connection with a cocaine seizure around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at the bus station on Station road.

Police say they approached the accused who had just arrived from Toronto by bus, to inform him that he was under arrest and suspected of carrying drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

The accused immediately threw the bag he was carrying to the ground and fled the scene on foot.

Police arrested the suspect following a short foot pursuit.

When he was asked to identify himself following his arrest, the accused obstructed police by providing a false name.

Police arrested and charged 26-year-old Marvin David Toussaint of Toronto with one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and one count of obstruct police.

Police seized the bag that the accused had abandoned, as well as its contents, which included:

  • 55.4 grams of crack cocaine; and
  • 4.6 grams of powdered cocaine.

The total street value of the drugs seized is estimated at $7,500.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing today.
