City officials are asking residents to once again avoid parking on area streets as city ploughs try to get caught up with the massive snowstorm the area experienced overnight and into today.

“We are asking residents to not park along roadways and this will continue into tomorrow,” said Chris Mayne, Chair of Engineering. Environmental and Works.

Mayne says to meet with the additional snow load this week, in addition to the regular staff in Roads, the city has called in part-time staff as well as staff from Water and Sewer and Parks to deal with the overwhelming snow load.

“Yesterday we had five plows out until 8 p.m., three plows from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m., and full staff in at 4 a.m. and will keep until at least 4 p.m.,” explained Mayne.

Mayne adds that the city is still completing snow bank removals today with contractors and assistance from the traffic department and part-time staff.

“By days end Lansdowne will be completed and we will be in Ferris starting on Gertrude and possibly Joseph,” noted Mayne.

“While there will always be some concerns I believe that overall everyone appreciates the additional effort crews are putting into winter maintenance this week and that they are doing a tremendous job in the face of one of the worst storms of the season.”
