Dr. Jim Chirico says he does not support the idea of moving into Stage 2 of the reopening plan.

Earlier this week, Premier Doug Ford stated he is planning to meet with the province's health table to see if the province is ready to move into another stage of reopening.

Dr. Chirico supports the 21 day interval between reopening stages.

"I believe we need to wait that 21 days and that is really important," said Dr. Chirico during Thursday's media conference.

Dr. Chirico, who is well known for his conservative approach to re-opening, feels we have to learn from past experience.

"We have said it over and over and over again that the quickest path to a prolonged and sustained reopening is to resist the temptation to reopen too quickly," he said.

"It takes about two to three weeks in order for the impacts of - because of the incubation period and transmission - it takes that period of time before you know the full impact of what you have done with loosening the restrictions so if you move too quickly and open things completely open we may end up back to where we started from and we do not want to do that.

"Stick to the plan and stick to the 21 days."

Stage 2 of the Ontario Reopening plan would allow for outdoor gatherings of up to 25 people, it would allow 50 per cent capacity for essential retail and 25 per cent for non-essential retial along with the reopening of personal care services among other things.
