Child in fatal crash on Hwy 11 South of Latchford identified Update

LATCHFORD - On the 27th of December, 2011, at 3:05 pm, the Temiskaming OPP investigated fatal motor vehicle collision involving two motor vehicles that occurred on Hwy 11 just south of the Town of Latchford.

On the 29th of December, 2011, a second person succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision while under medical care at the CHEO Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario. Deceased is Andrew Beland age 13 years of Brampton, Ontario.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation with the assistance of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation unit.

On the 27th of December, 2011, at 3:05 pm, the Temiskaming OPP was called to a motor vehicle collision involving two motor vehicles that occurred on Hwy 11 just south of the Town of Latchford.

A southbound vehicle lost control and crossed over the centre line, colliding with northbound vehicle.

As a result, an 8 year old female succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.

Deceased is Kaitlyn McPherson of Orangeville, Ontario.

Two other children injured in the collision remain in serious condition in hospital.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation with the assistance of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation unit.

OPP advise that as of 10:50pm Highway 11 at Latchford is now Open.

LATCHFORD - Temiskaming OPP was called to a motor vehicle collision involving two motor vehicles that occurred on Hwy 11 just south of the Town of Latchford at approximately 3:10 pm today.

A southbound vehicle lost control and crossed over the centre line, striking a northbound vehicle.

One child has been confirmed deceased at the scene and two others are in serious condition and have been transported by ambulance to Temiskaming Hospital.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation with the assistance of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation unit.

The highway (7:29pm) is expected to be closed for another 4 – 5 hours.
