The Conservative Party candidate for the Nipissing-Timiskaming riding has been chosen.

Further information is included in the following news release issued by the Nipissing-Timiskaming Conservative Association:

Peter Chirico, the popular Deputy Mayor of North Bay,
has been acclaimed as the Conservative Candidate for Nipissing-Timiskaming.

Commenting on the acclamation, Nipissing-Timiskaming Conservative Association President Gordan Rennie said local Conservatives are extremely pleased to have Peter
Chirico as their candidate.

“Peter is well known and well respected in the community
and is committed to working with community leaders and residents throughout the riding to give Nipissing-Timiskaming a strong voice in Ottawa.”

Rennie reported that other individuals giving the nomination serious consideration decided Chirico was best positioned to lead the party into the next election, which is expected as early as this June.

“While everyone enjoys the excitement of a race, Peter can now spend the next two weeks finalising his campaign team and meeting voters, in preparation for the upcoming
campaign,” said Rennie.

For his part, Chirico looks forward to getting his campaign in full swing.

“I offer them voters honesty, hard work, commitment and experience. I know the challenges that families are facing, and I know that it will take leadership and teamwork if we are going to ensure our Northern communities succeed and thrive”, said Chirico.

Chirico believes testimony of Liberal Party corruption emerging from the Gomery Inquiry and the lengths the Liberals are prepared to go to cling to power demonstrate they have lost the moral authority to govern.

“On Wednesday Paul Martin announced that he's willing to spend $4.6 billion of your tax dollars to keep himself in office for another 10 months. That's the price of the NDP’s
support to prop up the Liberal Government,” said Chirico.

“Mr. Martin won office last year by holding an election before any of the facts of the sponsorship scandal were known. Now, he wants to prevent having an election until
next year, hoping voters will forget what his party has done. Mr. Martin and Mr. Rota need to be told that corruption is not a Canadian value, and I look forward to delivering that message.”

The Conservative nomination meeting will proceed on Thursday, May 12th at 7pm at the Clarion Pinewood Park in North Bay as a campaign kick-off rally.
