Charity golf tourney to offer a $10,000 prize purse

It is called the Open because it is in theory “open” to all.  The only difference in this tournament, it will be “Open” to all golfers excluding professionals

Four local charities have come together to support one another and give golfers a chance to share in a $10,000 prize purse.

This event will support Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca, Canadore Foundation, KidSport North Bay, and One Kids Place.  All four charities will share in the proceeds that could exceed $40,000.

“This event is going to be fun, community-driven, competitive, and most importantly, it will help showcase these great charities in our community,” says Katharine Strang, One Kids Place Development Officer.

The North Bay Open was inspired by the first Open golf tournament in 1860 at the Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland.  It is called the Open because it is in theory “open” to all.  The only difference in this tournament, it will be “Open” to all golfers excluding professionals.

This four-person scramble format encourages anyone who is interested in participating with a cap of 18 teams, total.  Osprey Links in Callander will host the first North Bay Open on Thursday, September 24.

“Four charities, 18 Teams and a $10,000 prize purse. This charity tournament will be filled with great people, amazing charities, and a finish like no other I’m sure” says Brad Gavan, Director of Foundation at Canadore College.

Michelle Cundari from KidSport North Bay can’t wait for the first tee-off saying, “We couldn’t be more excited to be involved and working together with these incredible community groups”.

"This is another fantastic example of the camaraderie that exists in this community," adds Paul Laperriere, Director of Corporate Services for Hands  "We are grateful to be a part of this event, especially during this time, when we all need to pull together.”
