Charges laid in Christmas postal gift card theft

When someone noticed that gift cards were disappearing in a Parry Sound postal outlet, that were supposed to be mailed out, police were called.

So on January 2, West Parry Sound OPP started a theft investigation.

The Crime unit, with the help of Postal Inspectors from Canada Post, found that during the months of November and December 2016, a number of items intended for shipping were never sent.

A woman, Denni-Lee Smith, 28 years of age from McDougall Township was arrested and charged with:

  • 10 counts of theft Under $5,000
  • 10 counts of Theft From Mail - Sent By Post,
  • Fraud Under $5,000, 
  • Obstruct Peace Officer, 
  • Public Mischief, 
  • Traffic In Credit Card,
  • Two counts of Use of Credit Card,

Smith was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on April 6. Police won't say who her employer was.
