Derek Shogren has resigned as president of the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce.
Derek Shogren has resigned as president of the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce.

Shogren, the manager of the city’s Wal Mart store, has been transferred to another of the giant retailer’s Ontario stores, said Bill Elliott, who takes over as interim president.

“We had a brief executive meeting at noon Tuesday at which point Derek tendered his resignation from the chamber,” Elliott said, adding an election for a new president will be held tomorrow night at the organization’s monthly meeting.

Elliott said Shogren is a “thoughtful, intelligent” person who brought a lot of “good stable business savvy” to the chamber’s board of director.

“He’ll be missed.”

Elliott said he’ll let his name stand for election as president.
