City police issued a news release this morning indicating that the smashed door window case at Leather Trend on Main St. E. is now closed.

The window was smashed with a hammer by a pair of women trying to save a cat with a tin can stuck on its head.

The police release says, "A cat was observed with a can on its head inside a store on Main Street East. A window was broken to free the cat from the can.

"The damage to the window could have been avoided had the police been contacted before trying to remove the can from the cat. The Humane Society was also involved.

"The North Bay Police Service and the Humane Society are no longer involved with this incident."

Sources tell BayToday that charges were dropped against the women, one a senior citizen, after they agreed to pay for the damage.

There is also talk of a gofundme page to help the women pay.
