Car thief faces weapon and assault charge

A vehicle left unattended was too tempting to ignore for a Kirkland Lake woman Tuesday.

North Bay Police say on Tuesday, June 15, at 8:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a vehicle theft at a business in the 200-block of Pinewood Park Drive.

While the victim’s vehicle was left unattended, a woman got in and drove off in a dangerous manner, according to police.

The woman was ultimately stopped by the OPP on Highway 11 north near Rivers Road East.

No injuries were reported by the victim or bystanders as a result of the theft.

Melissa Turcott, 33, of Kirkland Lake is charged with:

  • Theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Dangerous operation
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Operation while impaired
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

Turcott is in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
