Car goes airborne, man charged

"The accused destroyed two road signs and became airborne for several metres."

Yesterday evening at approximately 7:45 a man was travelling southbound on Lakeshore Drive, when he crossed the median separating the off-ramp and Pinewood Park Drive.

While travelling through this median, the accused destroyed two road signs and became airborne for several metres.

He then crossed Pinewood Park Drive, collided with another vehicle, and came to a stop in the ditch on the east side of Pinewood Park Drive.

Nobody was injured as a result of this collision but both vehicles were severely damaged.

Following an investigation into the collision, North Bay police arrested and charged a 33-year old North Bay man with:

  • Impaired driving; and
  • Driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in blood.

The driver was released from custody with a court date scheduled for December 8th.

The victim, Clayton Eccles, posted on Facebook. "I am the guy that got hit. It was insane! Straight out of Dukes of Hazard for sure. This is the second time I've almost been killed by a drunk driver.  I'm glad no one was hurt and that my kids were not with me. For the love of everything holy DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!!!!"
