The countdown to the holidays is on and the candidates are putting the last minute rush getting official papers filed and campaigning and setting up offices around the riding.

Nipissing-Timiskaming Conservative Candidate Peter Chirico continued his campaign today.

Speaking at his Campaign Headquarters in North Bay, Chirico outlined his platform on democratic renewal and accountability by stating he will be working for the riding’s constituents and not for his party.

“We’ve got three guarantees that I will provide for this riding,” states Chirico

“Number one we will provide to meet with the youth look at the retention issue in the North and actually have people engaged within that process talk about it, to say what are the solutions.”

“Today I will guarantee that I will not vote to raise my own salary, I will not drop a tax payer’s paid calendar into your mailbox moments before an election in an attempt to use your tax dollars to influence your vote.”

Chirico also says that he will address the needs of seniors as they are the riding, that they built the riding.

Meanwhile on Monday Nipissing-Timiskaming Liberal incumbent Anthony Rota was at Place Richelieu meeting with seniors and announcing his strategy for seniors.

“I believe in a sound program that will allow seniors to become and maintain an active part in society and they have a lot to offer and it’s about us benefiting from what they have to offer.”

Rota outlined that he and the Liberal government will work to increase already existing programs so that seniors get the most out of their twilight years.

“It’s a case of extending what is out there and what they’ve been doing,” states Rota.

“There is nothing worse than having someone sit at home just dwelling, I mean it’s important to get seniors out have them involved through an active program and that’s what the Liberals believe in and that’s what I believe in. It’s about keeping everyone integrated in as opposed to saying here’s your money now go off on your own.”

Green Party candidate Meg Purdy has been low key this week.

Dave Fluri NDP candidate had no events scheduled for this week, as he has been working in the north end of the riding to get his team and office up and running.
