Canadore College has named Stephen Hong as the new Men’s Varsity Basketball head coach.

The North Bay product has been an assistant coach with the Nipissing Lakers varsity men's basketball team since 2013.

He also has experience coaching in the Ontario Basketball Association and the Ontario Summer Games as well as youth, high school, and club programs.

"Hong is known for being dedicated to the development of student-athletes on and off the court, with a philosophy that acknowledges and instills respect, discipline, and integrity," a Canadore College release stated.

Shawna Nielsen, Director of Student Experience, Success and Athletics believes Hong is a good fit and his experience makes him well known in the basketball community

“We welcome him to the Panther family and we look forward to working together to continue to build Canadore’s basketball program,” said Nielsen.

Hong takes over for Rami Arabi, who coached for only one season with the Panthers.

The Panthers are coming off a tough season where they finished last in the OCAA with a record of 0-20.

Arabi replaced Stacy Gallagher who coached the Panthers squad the previous four seasons.

Hong will assume his coaching responsibilities at Canadore on June 1.
