A pilot group of Brazilian teachers and administrators will be arriving at Canadore College next week for the Brazil-Canada Technological and Professional Fellowship Exchange program.

The group is tasked with curriculum development for training close to 1,000 additional tuition paying teachers that Brazil’s Department of Professional and Technical Education (SETEC) would like to send to Canada for one year of training later in 2014.

Over a three month period, the international guests will focus on Canadian approaches to teaching, competency-based teaching methodology, conducting applied research, industry connections and managing training programs.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of Canadore’s teaching and research facilities,” said George Burton, President of Canadore College.

“This type of collaboration is mutually beneficial. Our professors get to share some of their best practices, and have the chance to learn from the expertise they bring to our college.”

This Brazil-Canada exchange is the first of a Canadore multi-year initiative.

“I hope our community will give the three Brazilian professionals, who are making North Bay their home until late May, a very warm welcome,” said Burton.
