Callander Lights up Christmas once again

Hundreds brave the weather for a dose of well-lit holiday cheer

Callander held its annual Christmas event this past Saturday, aptly titled Callander Lights up Christmas. Hundreds braved the weather—the wind was wild off the lake when the evening kicked off at 5:00, but soon calmed down. The rain held off for the event as well.

Mayor Robb Noon was concerned not many would come out given that brisk wind and risk of rain, but those thoughts were soon allayed as the folks began to stream down to Centennial Park. “It was a great turnout,” Noon mentioned, “and everyone had a good time.”

The free hot chocolate helped warm residents, and when public works workers flipped the switch to illuminate the park, the cool weather took a backseat. The new pavilion was lit in red, blue, and green, and strands of lights decorated the trees.

The neighbourhood kids’ choirs came out to entertain the crowd, and Santa Claus made a much-anticipated appearance, taking time to meet with the children and read The Night Before Christmas. As always, there were horse-wagon rides that meandered down Main, which is always a hit with the holidaymakers.

The event was planned by the Events and Recreation Committee.
