Calarco's latest film takes a dramatic look at ageing

Local filmmaker and producer Jim Calarco has delivered another poignant thought provoking short film that takes a touching look at an issue that many families worldwide face.

Strangers, written by Calarco directed by Kevin Hoffman with cinematography by Ed Regan, takes a warm and touching look at a family living with Alzheimer’s.

Strangers is the third film in a planned four film package from Pair of Duck Productions that has a dramatic look at ageing, relationships and problems that everyone will face on life’s colourful journey.

Calarco says the film, which stars Claire Calarco as Nicole, Abby Calarco as Emily, Kelly Boegel as Isabelle and Jim as Bill, is a love story that deals with two people who meet in an art gallery and begin a friendly and easy going conversation. Before too long they are delving into the deeper meanings of their life and they start to examine the “what ifs” that occur in everyone’s existence.

“Despite appearance sometimes strangers are not what they appear to be,” states Calarco.



In the past six years have won several awards at the Mexico International Film Festival and the all Canadian Film Festival.

Pair of Ducks productions has had their film projects screened in film festivals across Canada including Cinefest, Film North and the Toronto Independent Film Festival. Their short film ‘The House’ was a top ten finalists in the Milan Film Festival that was adjudicated by Rutger Hauer and won a Silver Palm Award at the Mexican International Film Festival.

Regan has won Best Cinematographer award at Music and Film in Motion’s prestigious Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards and Hoffman has won Best Short Film at North International Film Festival.

“I really enjoyed working with Ed Regan (DOP) he is very talented and has an amazing eye for detail," says Hoffman.

The film is ready and available for viewing and it will premiere in North Bay in the first week of February.
