Leonard Dokis and Keith Hill have received awards from the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority.

Dokis was selected as winner of the Dorothy Walford Memorial Award, and Hill the winner of the Ward Smith Environmental Youth Award.

"Mr. Leonard Dokis has spent his entire life living off of, living with and preserving the lands of Lake Nipissing and the French River," a news release from the authority states.

For the past 12 years Dokis has been running his fish hatchery to help replenish the lake and the river, the news release states.

"He has actively served on committees and councils for many years in order to restore, maintain and preserve our local natural environments."

Hill has spent the last four years testing the water for E-coli from six different sites on Lake Bernard Creek to determine whether the Sundridge sewer lagoon may be leaching bacteria into the creek.

"Keith extended his study to also include soil samples and has taken samples from the Burk's Falls sewage lagoon in order to compare results," the news release states.

"Keith's perseverance to this project is commendable and we are pleased to be able to acknowledge his work."

Dokis and Hill will receive their awards Thursday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. at Churchill's Restaurant.
