It was a very busy last couple of weeks for the students of E.T. Carmichael P.S. as they produced a play, hosted a national author and helped children in Africa.

First the Grade 4 and 5 students took to the stage for their class production of Stone Soup. The play featured the multi talents of three classes and was directed by Debbie Hudson with the support of her fellow teachers. The props and set were designed and made by a group of students with the support of education assistant and school secretary Shirley Robinson.

That production was quickly followed by a visit by the wildly popular author Michael Wade. Wade is best known for his collection of books titled ‘And then it Happened’which really connects with boys. Wade talked to the students about how easy and fun it can be to write as well as several key literacy concepts embedded in the writing process.

As part of the Volunteer Now project a student-led project was held to raise money for an orphanage in Ghana, West Africa. The final fundraising effort for the year was a popcorn sale. It was a great year for the orphanage as the students raised over $700 throughout the year with various fundraisers.
