Busted car leads to busted suspects

Two Quebec men whose car broke down around 1 a.m. today on Hwy 17, in Bonfield, received a little bit more roadside assistance than they would have liked. The men were trying to flag down some help.

The men were trying to flag down some help. A call was placed to the Ontario Provincial Polce either by the men or a passing motorist.

When Const. Dave Moore , of the North Bay OPP detachment arrived, he talked to the two men who were driving a black Chrysler Intrepid.

Moore radioed their names in, and, based on on the radio call checked out the car and arrested the men, OPP said.

As well Const. Moore seized $27,000 in cash and about 215 grams of marihuana.

Officers of Project “Gateway" (a joint investigation between members of the Ontario Provincial Police and North Bay Police service) were called in and are helping North Bay OPP in the investigation.

Wilson Martinez, 28, of Hull, Que., has been charged with
two counts of marijuana possession, and one charge of breach of probation.

Andre Fortin, 21, of Gatineau, Que., is charged with possession of marijuana and marijuana trafficking.

Approximate street value of all the drugs seized is $400.

Both men attended a bail hearing this morning at the Ontario Court of Justice, in North Bay.
