Buckle up!

On Saturday Sept. 25, North Bay, Mattawa, and Powassan OPP officers will commence the Fall Seat Belt Initiative. Along with the rest of the province, they will aggressively target the use of seat belts and appropriate childcare seats, booster seat or seat belt (depending on the child’s physical size and development). The initiative runs through to Sunday Oct. 4th, 2004.

Last year during this initiative the North Bay Cluster checked 5,825 vehicles and charged 26 people with seatbelt violations. Ninety-eight vehicles were specifically checked for proper use of child seats. No child seat charges were laid.

In a news release from Field and Traffic Support Bureau, OPP General Head Quarters, North Bay, Sgt. John McNall emphasized that, “The reality is that approximately one in three fatalities on our roads involve drivers or passengers dying because they were not wearing their seatbelts.”

Let us continue to do our part in saving lives by taking the time to buckle up. Remember, it takes mere seconds to fasten your seat belt, and it takes mere seconds to lose your life because you didn’t .

Buckle up and do your part to eliminate Ontario’s one in three statistic!
