Bonfield Mayor Narry McCarthy and town council are very pleased to announce that Dr. M.L. Truchon has agreed to become the new doctor for the township under the Community Sponsorship Program.

He replaces Dr. Engels, who is relocating back to Southern Ontario.

The mayor thanked Dr. Engels for his 18 years of dedicated service to the residents of Bonfield.

"We are indebted to him and sincerely wish him and his family best wishes in their new home," stated Mayor McCarthy.

"What is exciting for both the township and Dr. Truchon is that he is a Bonfield resident and is looking forward to serving his neighbours and fellow residents," commented the mayor.

"Obviously, we were initially very concerned at the loss of Dr. Engels, but our council and staff remained very confident that Bonfield had plenty to offer to any new physician. We were confident that we were going to get a doctor for our residents," stated McCarthy.

"We have a very modern medical facility, closeness to hospitals in Mattawa and North Bay, an excellent standard and quality of life and the Community Sponsorship Program is an excellent provincial program for under serviced municipalities," commented McCarthy.

"On behalf of the Township of Bonfield, its residents and council, we embrace Dr.Truchon's decision to practice in his own backyard," concluded the mayor.
