Dr. Jim Chirico, Medical Officer of Health, is pleased to announce the lifting of the boil water advisory placed on the Verner water supply last Thursday, January 17 for most residents. The lifting is effective immediately, except for users south of the Veuve River.

Two sets of drinking water samples were tested. All results were satisfactory and are at normal operational levels.

Residential users of the community’s water supply are advised to run each of their cold water taps for one minute on first time use to remove any sediment. Large volume users are advised to run cold water taps for two minutes on first time use.

Those still on the boil water advisory must continue to bring their water to a rolling boil for one full minute for cooking and drinking purposes. Their water is safe for adults to use for bathing purposes. Once the testing for those locations is completed and acceptable, they will be informed of the results.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Jim Chirico, is advising residents of Verner that the boil water advisory issued yesterday remains in effect for all residents who draw their water from the municipal water system.

A boil water advisory means that people who take their water from the municipal system should not:

 Drink the water

 Use it to brush their teeth

 Use it to wash foods, such as fruits and vegetables which will be eaten raw

Water used for consumption should be brought to a rolling boil and allowed to boil for one full minute before use.

For cooking purposes, ensure that the water comes to a full boil.

Staff from Verner’s water treatment plant will flush the water main once the break has been repaired. Sets of water samples will be collected during the weekend for laboratory analysis. Staff from the Health Unit and the Ministry of the Environment will continue to monitor the situation, and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
