There's a shortage of doctors locally but this should help.

The new Northern Shores Medical Clinic will begin accepting applications for patients beginning today.

The Clinic is made up of three family doctors originally from the North Bay area, and will be ready to begin seeing patients in their family practice early next year.

Applications can be filled out online here or picked up at City of North Bay and MPP Vic Fedeli’s Office.

Completed forms can also be mailed to PO Box 1080, North Bay On, P1B 8K3.

One of the physicians, Dr. Renée Gauthier says they will be reviewing the applications over the next few months before opening for patient care.

“Patients will be selected based on a variety of factors to create a comprehensive practice, which will include a full spectrum of patients,” Dr. Gauthier says in a news release. “While we appreciate all the applications we receive, we will only be able to notify successful candidates.”

The Northern Shores Medical Clinic will open with three doctors initially, but the group hopes to expand the practice and have room for up to seven other future grads.

“Any applicants not selected this time can remain in our queue and possibly be selected when another doctor joins our practice,” Dr. Gauthier added.

This group’s decision to set up a practice in North Bay was encouraged by the recent agreement by North Bay city council to contribute up to $175,000 annually for the next three years, to family physician recruitment in the community.

The new team of doctors will benefit from grants provided by both the City ($25,000) and the Health Centre ($25,000) to assist with start-up costs. The clinic could potentially have up to 3,600 patients within two years.
