More details released from an early morning fire on First Avenue East.

Fire Prevention Officer Randy Vezina says the fire caused more than $225,000 in damage to the building which had nine apartment units in it and 10 occupants.

The fire caused serious damage to the roof along with the fire escapes along with serious smoke and water damage inside.

Vezina says the three alarm fire started near a bed in a second story dwelling unit in the rear of the building.

“We have an unknown ignition source but the fire has been ruled accidental but undetermined,” stated Vezina.

Vezina says the fire has displaced all 10 occupants of the building.  He credits volunteers from Victim Services Nipissing District and the Red Cross for providing support, clothing and food for the displaced residents.

“They are once again providing a wonderful service at the scene with people  watching their building burn and providing them clothing, food vouchers and a place to stay for a couple of nights,” said Vezina.
