Big meeting on fate of Kent Trusses today

It's hoped officials can learn more about the company's shutdown

A summit meeting of municipal officials, government representatives and the principals of Sundridge employer Kent Trusses will take place in North Bay today to try and salvage the company and the 100 local jobs that go with it.

Sundridge Mayor Lyle Hall told BayToday that attending the meeting will be himself, the reeve of Strong Township Christine Ellis, Kent owner/president Julio Cacoilo, General Manager Chuck Melanson, and some federal bureaucrats.

Hall says he expects to be told what is going on with the future of the company, and perhaps what they need to make the operation work.

Parry sound Muskoka MPP Norm Miller told BayToday that he is "very concerned" and will be doing everything he can to resolve the situation.

The town's largest employer sent its workers home last Thursday and closed its doors without explanation, but an email from Melanson said: "We are experiencing a temporary production shutdown and will have an update for customers no later than Monday, August 29th."

The company has been silent since.

Yesterday, the company site was virtually empty of activity and product and its front gate was closed and padlocked.
