If you travel in the west end of the city, be prepared for traffic delays this week as road reconstruction will force detours around Worthington and John Street.

Beginning this morning, Worthington will be closed in both directions between Regina and Metcalfe from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to prepare the road base for repaving on Wednesday and Thursday.

During the paving operation, the closure will be back into effect and a detour will be put in place to direct traffic around the construction area.

"For southbound traffic, Worthington Street is the only access to the Morris Street and Whitson Street area," said Reid Porter, Infrastructure Engineer.

"Consequently, this traffic must be detoured down to West Ferris in order to allow traffic to turn around and head back to the northbound accesses at Morris Street and Metcalfe Street."

The detour will consist of using Regina Street, Main Street, the Overpass, Lakeshore Drive, Charles Street, Lee Avenue, and Judge Avenue to head back to the Overpass and to the northbound accesses to the area. Traffic leaving this area will be detoured to exit via McIntyre Street East.

John Street traffic will remain closed between Hardy Street and McIntyre Street East; however local traffic will be maintained to provide access to homes and businesses in the immediate area.

Detour signs will be posted.
