Beavertails a huge hit in North Bay

Beavertails selling like hotcakes.

Ray Seguin has always loved Beavertails.

“Going back 10 years ago while I was traveling in Quebec City I stopped at a Beavertail shop and I said ‘wow, this would be amazing for North Bay,’ and I found out the availability was coming up for northern Ontario so I purchased the northern Ontario franchise and basically have special event trailers and go from there, it’s a fun business,” said Seguin about the sweet flat pastry shaped like a beaver tail.

And Seguin says North Bay has devoured his beavertail stock, eating away his weekend quota by Friday afternoon and eventually selling out of beavertails completely on the weekend as the trailer was inundated with long lineups all weekend long.

“It’s amazing how many people already know about it they are taking pictures, sharing on social media, it’s been amazing, the trailer itself is a billboard so everybody who knows about a beaver tail they are calling everybody and they are all coming one after another,” he said.

The beavertail pastry shack is currently located in the parking lot at Lucky 13 on McKeown avenue in North Bay.

Seguin says he will continue to have the trailer open for the next two weekends and then will take his trailer on the road to Timmins in November to be part of that community's Hometown Hockey festivities.

He expects beavertails to be part of a lot of special events locally and around the north.

“We will be doing all sorts of special events like Summer in the Park, and the Powassan Maple Syrup Festival, and we will do a bunch of other functions around northern Ontario and hopefully by the summer we are at a second trailer and possibly a third one so.”
