St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears meet resounding success on the second leg of their annual Spring Food Drive collecting just under 1500 pounds Wednesday night in the Airport Road/Hornell Heights area.
“Over the two days, SJSH was able to collect 6,100 pounds of food for the food bank. Together with the 1,850 pounds collected by Ecole Secondaire Odyssee yesterday, the North Bay Food Bank will be receiving a total donation of 7,950 pounds,” notes teacher/organizer David Briggs.
“Over the last 4 spring food drives, the North Bay Food Bank has received 32,241 pounds of food; 23,836 pounds from SJSH and 8,405 pounds from Odyssee.”
He says the Bears will now turn their focus on helping stock the shelves of the Callander and Powassan Food Banks in the coming weeks.
The dates and times for those drives will be announced soon.

Students, staff, alumni, and friends of St. Joseph-Scollard Hall and Ecole Secondaire Odyssee hit the bricks Tuesday night for their annual Spring Food Drive for the North Bay Food Bank.
Both the Odyssee Phenix and SJSH Bears had an incredible response at homes throughout the city and saw them collect 6400 pounds of food.
The Phenix teams collected 1,850 pounds of food, breaking their record of 1,800 pounds set last April, while the Bears gathered an impressive 4,560 pounds of food.
The Bears will also run a second day for the food drive today with 5 teams canvassing the Ski Club/Airport Hill/Hornell Heights neighbourhoods.
The goal for the five teams today is to collect 3,600 pounds to help push the Bears overall number to 10,000 pounds.
For residents were missed Tuesday night or for the folks who live in Ski Club/Airport Hill/Hornell Heights area and won't be home tonight, you are encouraged to drop off a food donation to the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall main office between 8am and 4pm.
