Village Media, the parent company of BayToday.ca continues to expand its network of media outlets across Ontario with the planned launch of independent news site OrilliaMatters.com on January 8th.

OrilliaMatters.com will bring locally-driven news in real time to Orillia and the municipalities within Ontario's Lake Country region (Rama, Ramara, Severn, Oro-Medonte) says a news release from CEO Jeff Elgie.

The OrilliaMatters newsroom includes Dave Dawson and Nathan Taylor, two recognized journalists from the community.  Joining them are Publisher John Hammill, and Regional Sales Manager Nicole Parkes.

Like BayTodayOrilliaMatters will offer breaking news, feature stories, obituaries, editorials, and other content from the region. The most current local news will be posted throughout the day, with national news provided by The Canadian Press.

OrilliaMatters is part of the Village Media network, which operates some of the largest online news sites in the communities it serves. The sites are driven by news and information that appeals to a highly engaged, loyal audience. In 2017, BayToday got over 26 million page views.

“We believe that locally-driven news is essential to communities. That’s why we’ve started or helped launch more than 10 digital news sites in communities just like Orillia within the past few years — communities that in some cases were also told their local newspaper didn’t factor into someone else’s bottom line,” said Elgie.  “We are proud to be extremely community-minded and cover important stories in your city. We have a great team in place and look forward to becoming an integrated part of the community’s daily news.”

Village Media, which has a growing media presence across the region, includes the news sites SooToday.com, GuelphToday.com, BarrieToday.com, BayToday.ca, ElliotLakeToday.com, TimminsToday.com, OrilliaMatters.com and has strategic partnerships with Sudbury.com in Sudbury, TBNewswatch.com in Thunder Bay, the Manitoulin Expositor (manitoulin.ca), and Rogers Media in Halifax (HalifaxToday.ca)
