Mason McTavish scored three times to lead the Peterborough Petes to a 5-3 win over the North Bay Battalion on Thursday night in Peterborough.

McTavish, who was just returned to the OHL by the Anaheim Ducks scored a goal in all three periods including an empty netter in the final 30 seconds to secure the Petes win.

Brandon Coe led the Conference-leading Battalion attack with a pair of goals including one on the power play to bring the Battalion back into the game when they were down 2-1 after Petes goals by McTavish and James Guo.

McTavish gave the Petes their two-goal lead again, this time on an unassisted marker in the second period.  JR Avon increased the Petes lead to 4-1 with a power play marker in the final minute of the second period.

It stayed that way until the latter stages of the third when Josh Currie scored a power play marker at 14:04 and Coe netted his second at 18:04 to make it a 4-3 game.

The Petes, scrambling to hold on to the lead, took a tripping minor in the final minute to give the Battalion a late power play opportunity with the goalie pulled.

However, MacTavish was able to score the shorthanded empty netter to give the Petes the win.

Matvey Petrov finished the night with three assists for the Troops.

Dom Divincentiis made 29 saves in the loss.

The loss drops the Battalion record to 12-7-0-1 on the season while the Petes improve to 7-10-1.

The Battalion is back on the road tomorrow as they face the Kingston Frontenacs.
