Bad signs

This sign, on Fisher Street near the North Bay bypass, was recently put up. But not all signs in the city are as pristine, Bill Walton says. Photo by Bill Walton.

The Johnstons have done North Bay proud with their new welcome sign on Fisher Street. Dr Rod is also involved with the Waterfront and Bloom programs and these projects are also well-signed. Signing is a big part of the branding process but unfortunately, not all signs are in as good repair as the above.

A tour around town on Sunday gave some examples:

Oak Street parking lot. Is their any confusion about parking?

Waterfront – only several thousand people saw these signs last weekend.

Planning for Tomorrow, at the east end of Main Street.

Location unknown. This a virtual billboard of our own World Cup skier Steve Omischl that was going to be at one of the city entrances. It's not there yet because it hasn't been done, so consider this a little reminder city council!

This Memorial Gardens liability sign could use a little freshining up.

Trout Lake Road: Who knows what this once proclaimed.

Airport Road: a sign to remember as you leave via the airport.

City administrator Dave Linkie said municipal signs are normally replaced as required.

"But we’ve got a discretionary spending freeze in place now and we’re very careful with spending even our nickels," Linkie said.

"And so we haven’t been as aggressive in replacing them as in past years, but all safety-related signs are replaced as soon as they become damaged or faded."
