A Northern Ontario man received non-life-threatening injuries when the snowmobile he was driving was struck by a vehicle on Highway 17 just west of Bonfield.

The man was driving his 1993 Polaris when he was hit by a 1992 G.M.C. Geo, driven by Kyle Michael Wilson of Bonfield

After investigating the collision, Ontario Provincial Police charged Carl Lafortune, of Hamner, with careless driving under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act of Ontario.

Operators of motorized snow vehicles are reminded to take extreme care when crossing a highway, OPP say. If they are covering long distances riders should make rest stops to ensure that they are physically able to control their machines and remain mentally alert.

The OPP encourages the public to enjoy the trails and to operate their machines in a safe and sober manner.
